Here's some stuff to use in your projects that won't get you in trouble...

You are all designing stuff, from houses to video games, to fashion. Here are some links to stuff you may find helpful and useful as you make your projects without reinventing the wheel, as they say...

Whether you're doing Graphic design, making a game in ARIS, or just trying to find the perfect pic for your blog post, it helps to do it legally since you're posting this stuff on the web.
Seriously, stop with the Google image search, already... this is going on the web.

Image sites:

  • Creative Commons Search (the big one) A multimedia CC search, searches across Google, Flickr, and more.
  • Unsplash is made up of a collective of photographers who were sick of “traditional” stock imagery, so they decided to offer their own high-resolution images for free. All photos on the site can be copied, modified and distributed (including for commercial purposes) under CC0, without you having to ask permission or provide attribution.
  • Negative Space is another contemporary hi-res photo site that releases all of their images into the public domain. You can filter by category, color and (most interestingly) by copy space—ideal for when you need an image for web design!
  • MorgueFile
  • Pics4Learning
  • Flickr Free Use Photos Photo sharing, no attribution necessary
  • Beholdcc Use the boxes before you search to select licensing
  • Flickr: The Commons (contributions from major institutions)
  • Clipart ETC (University South Florida)
  • openphoto: Free stock images. Use categories on the right to browse or click on search in the top bar
  • BurningWell (public domain, high resolution photos)
  • Free Images Collection (No Copyright, High Resolution, Free Images)

Vector Art Resources:

  • Public Domain Vectors has a massive collection of public domain vectors that are available to download in SVG, AI and EPS formats. All images are licensed under CC0.
